Frequently asked questions
Common questions about email notifications for streamers chatting in their own offline Twitch chat.
What is offline Twitch chat?
Offline chat is a channel’s chat while the broadcaster is not live. PreChat looks for the broadcaster’s own messages in that chat, so you can join a conversation even when there is no stream to watch.
How do I get notified when a Twitch streamer chats offline?
Find a streamer on PreChat, select a watch, and verify your email with a six-digit code. PreChat sends an email when it detects an eligible new conversation in that streamer’s own offline chat.
Is this a Twitch go-live notification?
PreChat alerts you about a broadcaster chatting while offline. It does not send go-live alerts, and an offline conversation does not mean a stream is about to start.
Do I need to connect a Twitch account or install an extension?
No Twitch account connection or browser extension is required to use PreChat. You sign in with an email code. Twitch’s own rules and channel settings apply if you choose to participate in chat.
Will I receive an email for every chat message?
No. Only broadcaster messages can start an alert, and a new conversation requires 60 minutes since the last broadcaster message PreChat recorded, including across restarts and reconnections. Messages during downtime may be missed, so a recovery alert can arrive during an ongoing conversation. PreChat leaves at least two hours between alerts for a streamer. A recorded conversation that starts during that cooldown does not generate a delayed alert.
Why might a message not trigger an alert?
The streamer may be live, stream status may be unknown, a cooldown may apply, or monitoring may be disconnected. After an observed live stream, PreChat also waits for 30 continuously observed offline minutes. Twitch outages can lose messages, so every conversation cannot be guaranteed.
How many streamers can I watch?
You can keep up to ten watches. Early access covers 100 distinct active streamers across all PreChat users. Multiple people can watch the same covered streamer without using another shared streamer place.
What happens when the shared streamer limit is full?
You can still watch a streamer already covered by PreChat, subject to your ten-watch limit. Adding or resuming a watch for a new active streamer requires a shared place to be available.
How do I pause or stop my notifications?
Choose Manage subscriptions on the homepage and sign in to pause or remove watches. The “Manage my subscriptions” link in an alert also signs you in; it is single-use and expires after seven days. An email client’s unsubscribe action stops that watch without signing you in.
Do I need to accept optional analytics?
No. Rejecting optional analytics does not limit subscriptions. Essential sign-in and abuse-protection checks still operate. The required signup Privacy Policy acknowledgement is separate from optional analytics consent.
Is PreChat affiliated with Twitch?
PreChat is an independent service and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Twitch. It uses Twitch information to detect eligible offline conversations.
